Religious School
The majority of members of B'nai Tikvah embrace the Reconstructionist view that the mitzvot of the Torah are observed because they add to people's lives a sense of meaning, belonging and identity with the Jewish people.
In keeping with this outlook, our Religious School seeks to:
- instill a love of Jewish tradition/observance,
- encourage knowledge and use of the Hebrew language,
- foster a will to live Jewishly,
- present a view of God which motivates ethical living,
- contribute to the development of a sustaining, spiritual faith consistent with a belief in the goodness of the universe,
- nurture an understanding in the children that Torah and Jewish teachings can help them creatively meet the problems and challenges of life, and
- cultivate an appreciation for the diversity that exists within Judaism, and a recognition that Judaism has continually evolved from biblical days to the present.
Our congregation accepts matrilineal descent as well as patrilineal descent - a child is Jewish when either parent is Jewish and the child is raised a Jew.
